Son teething his adult teeth???

My son lost his lower two front teeth early due to an injury. He is now almost five and his two adult teeth are coming in. I can%26#039;t keep his fingers out of his mouth, he is crying at random times and is really really cranky. now my son has Autism so he has problems telling me what is up. Is it possible for him to be teething on his adult teeth and has anyone ever experienced this and if so how did you handle it? I just feel so bad for him!!!%26#039;

Thanks so much!!!

Son teething his adult teeth???
Sorry about his teeth. I know how hard it is when your child can%26#039;t tell you what is going on. I%26#039;m also sorry that a previous answerer got on you about watching your son closer. It%26#039;s NOT that easy. things happen quickly.

If his teeth have already broken through, then usually the pain is gone. I%26#039;m thinking it probably has more to do with the sensory issues associated with autism. Maybe try teething rings or orajel.
Reply:ok well 1st watch you kid better how did he loose his theeth??

and he crys maybe because it hurts ( the new teeth growing in)... and i dont know what to say about the fact of him having his hand in his mouth!! sorry
Reply:Indeed your son can be teething and like children does they always get all itchy when they start to grow u must give him a chew toy or brush his teeth to relieve of his itchiness but i dont think your son wont have his new teeth until he reaches 7 or 8 or maybe early then that.
Reply:Yeah it%26#039;s extremely likely his adult teeth are coming in. Most kids lose their teeth when they are in kindergarten-around five. Also, lots of times if you lose a tooth before the new ones are ready, your body will compensate and grow them early. Try some numbing gel like Anbesol for his gums, as well as ice. My mom also always used to say to put whiskey on a child%26#039;s toothache, but I%26#039;ll let you take that advice for what you will. (You would just put some on your finger and rub it on.)
Reply:He is probably crying because growing in teeth early really really hurts. Make sure to go over to him and give him love when this happens.

To prevent his fingers in his mouth, there is this nail polish at like Drug Stores or Target or Walmart that smell and taste really bad, they are also used for preventing biting nails.
Reply:YES, he%26#039;s getting his adult teeth you only have two set!! %26quot;Give him some children%26#039;s Tylenol or children%26#039;s ibuprofen which ever your child%26#039;s doctor tell you to give him for a temp or use children%26#039;s oral gel. As for his fingers in his mouth dont%26#039; stress it while the teeth are growing in. Rubbing the gums probably makes them feel better. IF you have any real concerns ask his dentist, what they recommend.
Reply:Yes he is getting his adult teeth. It doesn%26#039;t matter how his baby teeth came out, once they are out the adult teeth will start moving down and coming through. Not everyone has pain when their adult teeth come in. My kids did not. Have you spoke to this dentist about this? Definitely give him Motrin for the pain. Good luck.
Reply:They do make an anbesol for babies. Try that. And he is probably in pain because adult teeth don%26#039;t usually come in this early. So he is probably feeling the same thing that babies feel when they have the first set come through. So just do everything like you would normally do with the first set coming through. I%26#039;m sure you found a way to comfort him then
Reply:yeah it hurts them. Not as bad as baby teeth but it does. Give him paracetomol
Reply:schedule an appointment with the dentist to confirm.
Reply:autistic kids are in a world of sensory where everything around them is amped way above our level (noises are louder, taste buds taste more intensly and so on)

so its natural that ANY kind of slight sensation to the mouth that he cant control and wasnt there before is really going to overwhelm him at times.

try getting redirected to something else when he starts to melt down. and maybe start back over witht the techniques you used when he was teething the first time.

maybe getting him a chewie to bite on to help keep his fingers out.

good luck to you!!
